Light - Floating Reflection: The internationally renowned lighting manufacturer Ingo Maurer returns to Milan's city centre with an extraordinary presence. On the occasion of Euroluce and Milan Design Week 2023, the team convinces with an impressive light installation at a new location: on its own traffic island stands the Porta Nuova, Caselli, a large archway with two adjacent buildings. A 30-metre-long "carpet" extends through the arch, a wooden platform painted in striking fluorescent colours. Above it rise sails made of reflective material, supported by a rope structure that hovers above the ground and is stretched at a height of 3 to 5 metres. The surface absorbs the colours and light of the surroundings and reflects its own interpretation of them. For visitors, this creates the impression that not only the floor but also the ceiling above them has been covered in colour. The crumpling of the material, its own movement and external thermal influences intensify this effect and create a unique atmosphere. However, the staging not only offers a radiant play of colours during the day, but also unfolds an intense effect at night through targeted illumination of the floor.
The design team will present new products in a total of seven rooms in the adjoining buildings. The team transforms the spacious outdoor area into a spectacular setting that will captivate visitors to the Fuorisalone. Here, the Ingo Maurer team is creating a place to linger, reflect, but also a place for dialogue and discussion in a stimulating light ambience. The installation fits perfectly into its surroundings and creates an impressive symbiosis of (light) art and architecture. In the long-standing tradition of urban lighting concepts in Milan, the company's current staging will also provide an overview of the versatile spectrum of unique Ingo Maurer lighting art. The lighting concept is correspondingly powerful. At the same time, it symbolises the new beginning of the company after the death of the founder, designer and light poet Ingo Maurer. On 18 April, the opening ceremony took place with the support of food artist Laila Gohar and the Milan DJ duo Giselle and Guayaba with Caribbean music.
Ingo Maurer Opening Party at Porta Nuova

Traditionally on Tuesday evening, the Ingo Maurer team hosted the opening party of the installation and exhibition at Porta Nuova. The event was open to the public; in line with the company's philosophy, everyone was welcome. The event was supported by our friend, food artist Laila Gohar from New York, and two DJs from Milan who played Caribbean music and kept the crowd dancing until midnight.
